This is a very 80's, eclectic sound. The first song off this album sounds like 80's new wave. Small wonder I liked it right off the bat. *G* My absolute most favorite song on the album is a priceless gem called "Holding back the Years." Blend of classic Stevie Wonder and the brand of soul that is so uniquely theirs. Also, with Mick Hucknall's beautiful tenor voice the song is at the same time melancholic and hopeless, but as the chorus states, he's still holding onto theat one small ray of sunshine. As I interpret the song anyway. I have a feeling that Mick meant it to mean all hope being strangled from all directions (societal and familial) but he keeps clinging to that because that's all he knows. A lot of the other songs on the album have the disco/influence that was so prevalent in the early to mid 80's (out of songs I listened to anyway).. Throw in a little gospel feel on one song, and an exceptional remake of "Let Me Have It All." In a few places this CD is a little rough, but that comes probably from it being their first album. Just trying to find their musical niche.
