I can hear a lot more of the signature sound in this sophomore effort from Simply Red. Songs like "The Right Thing," "Shine," and "Suffer" showcase Mick Hucknall's vocal talents and musical abilities much better than "Picture Book." Mick's maturing lyrics in this album also shed light on the romantic nature of his music. And as always, Mick does classic songs some much-needed justice.
It's still a little raw overall, as with just about everything Simply
Red does, the music and lyrics compliment each other quite nicely.
This is the album that heralds the coming of the group as we know it as
well as a coming of age of sorts.
