Oh my God, this album from Simply Red I must say ranks right up alongside "A New Flame" in the favorite Simply Red albums of all time. This is Simply Red at their simply elemental best. Mick Hucknall returns to his roots for "Blue" with seven original songs and five covers (one of which a reworked version of "The Air That I Breathe"). It's a very nice blend and balance of classic Simply Red soul ("Mellow My Mind," "Love Has Said Goodbye Again"), danceable tunes ("Blue," "To Be Free"), and gentle ballads ("Say You Love Me").
Simply Red knows a good classic formula when they see and use it,
and yet they still somehow manage to keep everything very much "today."
